the only problem is in the dock, when you ctrl click the new icon to get the menu you can move out through folders on the hard drive but not on cds. the cd shows up, but just as an alias. any work around?

Is any one else having problems with the trackpad scrolling options . I have been trying to improve the scrolling from without inertia to with inertia where it has more IOS movement. Each time I reboot I have to fiddle with the control to get back it to where it is more smoother . Quite frustrating but just want to know if others are experiencing the same thing?

What kinda computer are you on? I'm doing fine on my late 2008 Macbook.

I'm looking at picking up a Mac Mini as a HTPC and dropping cable, but then I realized my 42" plasma only supports 1024x768 resolution.

I'm guessing this won't exactly be optimal, so I'm weighing whether to get a better tv. I don't really want to have to spend the extra money on a new set, so I'm hoping I could get some opinions as to how dismal the experience will be with my current set up.

Mac OS X is survivable at that resolution. After all, it wasn't that long ago that all Apple's 12" Portables shipped at that resolution (Including the PowerBook G4 12" and iBook 12" until Mid - 2006), however that is rather sub-optimal, especially if you want to view any widescreen content.

Select 1 Partition from the drop down list. Then click on Options below the big box with Untitled 1 in the middle, should get this Window:

And select GUID partition table. Hope this works. Then name your partition whatever you like and select your Format settings.

Ok, I hope some of the experts out there can help me out.

I'm using photoshop to make some high quality posters that I'm going to print out using our university printers (very nice, archival paper, etc.), and I want to be sure I'm doing everything I can do ensure the highest quality I can.

So this is what happened, I started making these posters with no intent to print them at first, and so I made them 10"x6.67" at like 150 DPI. NOW, I want to print them at 18"x12" and also at the original smaller size. Also in these posters it's pretty much just text and shapes made using the shape tool, some textures, etc. Here are some of the one's I've done up to now to give you an idea of what I'm working with:

I have a variety of questions:

1. Is it true that if I just go into the current file and change it to 18x12 at 300dpi, it won't actually be that quality? I've heard this is true.

2. Would it be best to make a new file at 18x12, 300dpi, and then import everything from the old file, or simply make them new again? (NOTE: I have no real objection making them new if it will make it nicer, also, there's a lot of things I actually want to change with them so I wouldn't mind starting from scratch).

3. Going off of that question, let's say I make an 18x12, and I want to print a 10x6.67, could I just decrease image size, save it in a printable form, and that won't affect quality?

4. That reminds me, what is the best format to print from? I know not JPG, but maybe TIFF? not really sure here.

4. When using these shapes and texts, should I rasterize them once I'm ready to print, or does that not matter? Or is there something else I should be doing? I'm confused about this whole rasterizing thing.

Sorry for the boatload of random questions, I just want to be sure I'm getting high quality stuff here when I print these, as I'm going to be giving some as gifts and I just want them to look nice around my apartment.

Owning a Mac Pro 1,1 I have found it just as usable on Lion as it is on Snow Leopard (It is still a beta at the end of the day so of course there are going to be bugs).

I would say its pretty safe in support, the only reason Apple are removing support of the older generation is due to the 1st gen Core chips using 32bit architecture. The Mac Pro used a Xeon which shared traits with the Core 2 Duo, hence it is actually a 64 bit chip.

I'm trying to migrate data off of a Macintosh Performa 6115CD and a Power Macintosh 7300/180. The Performa is running System 7 and the 7300 is running MacOS9. I do not have an external SCSI adapter to attach the disks to for a raw copy.

What's the best way to get data off of these machines? I was looking into Appletalk over IP but I'm not sure how to proceed.

Hi, bought an 13" white macbook today off a friend for cheap. I knew it had issues and he said it stuck on loading. Which it does.

After reading around it appears it a common problem, but i cant get to the bottom of it.

It shows the login bit where it has the loading bar, then goes to a blue page with curser and then back to spinning wheel.

I have tried the fsck and PRAM stuff.

Just tried botting in verbose mode but it just has one line which is showing it: Login Window Application Started.

Its been like that for 10 minutes or so.

I do not have the install disks but will try and get them if he has them.

Any help?

First off there was some kind of odd dhcp issue with airport extreme prior firmware 7.5.2 wich could introduce this problem. update the firmware if it is @ the latest.


As I mentioned, it's not the router. A Belkin N+ did the same thing on this Pro. It's the MacBook for sure.

When you set up folding, you can always set the cpu to use only 50% of its power (or whatever %). Then it shouldn't get that hot, and won't be a windtunnel!

Great quality too. The quality of their HD downloads are impressive. Since they're owned by Wal-Mart, maybe they'll push the rental pricing down lower across the board.

By the way, good for Sony for offering a direct competitor to their built-in PSN video offerings on their own hardware. Of course, they get paid either way. I'm sure that makes a difference too.

I currently have a Mac with iTunes, an iPad, and an iPod Shuffle that I've automatically synced with the Mac. When I last purchased songs from the iTunes store, it gave me a message saying "do you want to backup either through Time Machine or discs?".

If, in the future, my Mac's hard drive crashes and I get a new Mac (or replace the hard drive), can I upload all of the songs that I've synced to my iPad/iPod Shuffle. If I have set it to automatically sync, will it wipe all the songs off the iPad/iPod?

Also, I can't seem to drag and drop music where I want it in the iTunes library under Music. I've had this problem for years, but now that I have more songs, it's starting to bug me...
