The stigma historically associated with wearing glasses has now disappeared, and glasses are becoming more acceptable than they have ever been. Who would’ve thought they would be in fashion?! This could be thanks to many celebrities making this look ever so popular. Geek wannabees not needing optical prescription can be seen wearing this look.

Madonna, our favorite style icon is often spotted wearing the latest in Buddy Holly style glasses. She even wears the nerdy specs at her music concerts to show the young crowd she’s still hip. Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes is following her mum’s lead by donning geeky glasses. On the streets of LA, young Hollywood actresses, Kirsten Dunst and Ashley Olsen make these overbearing specs look sexy.

Perhaps the ever so popular Harry Potter inspired the latest fashion trend. The popular U.S. comedy Ugly Betty sees the heroine proudly wearing the geekiest of glasses. The media always plays an important part in changing trends. So, if the nerdy look is defined as cool, everyone wants to latch onto this new look.

Fashion designers like Michael Kors and Balenciaga have been featuring models wearing huge square glasses on the catwalk. Over the last couple of years, there has been a huge influx of catwalk models sporting the new trend. The fun look can be found in bright neon colors, patterns and designs. It doesn’t matter if they are round or square, as long as they are outrageously oversize, they are in.
