Lindsay Lohan Gets 120 Days in Jail for Necklace Theft

The story has been kicked about by the press for a long time now, but yesterday,  had her day in court (again) and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor theft charge stemming from an incident in which she walked out of an upscale boutique wearing a necklace that she didn’t pay for. She was sentenced to 120 days in jail after the plea was entered, though it is suspected that she may serve that time in her Venice home instead of in a cell. Jail overcrowding is apparently to blame for the leniency, though Lohan has gotten out of so many sentences at this point that one must wonder if that’s just the way things work for her.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner placed Lohan on three years probation in addition to her 120 day sentence. The probation will dictate that Lohan must attend a shoplifting program, as well as receiving psychological counseling. She will also be responsible for completing 480 hours of community service at the L.A. County coroner’s office and the Downtown Women’s Center on skid row. Noted Lohan’s attorney after the sentencing, "She is neither requesting or receiving special treatment."

Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, "It appears a person like Ms. Lohan will be eligible for home detention," adding that she is a nonviolent person and has no serious criminal history (though it certainly is a lengthy one at that point). In court Sautner said she didn’t wish to "battle" the sheriff on whether Lohan would serve her time in jail or in her home.
