The Lost City of Atlantis - Truth or Myth

Plato introduced the world to the story of Atlantis. He stated that this city was the one with a magical touch and then it happened to mysteriously vanish into the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean in a single day. People still fail to understand whether Atlantis is a reality or a myth. Let me take you to the era when this legend is believed to have commenced its journey.
It started way back 11,000 years ago, Atlantis was an island nation that existed in the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean where most of the people were extremely noble and powerful. The island was loaded with prosperity and wealth and the main attraction for trade and commerce. Atlantis was under the control of Poseidon, the God of the sea. Poseidon fell in love with Cleito, a mortal lady and married her. Poseidon built a huge home for his wife at the top of the hill situated in the middle of the island and created rings of water around the home to provide protection to his wife.
Cleito was blessed with 10 sons (5 sets of twins). The entire island was ruled by the sons of Poseidon and the eldest son Atlas was given the entire control of the hill at the centre and the surrounding areas. A temple was built at the top of the hill to honor the God Poseidon consisting of a gigantic gold statue of Poseidon riding his chariot that was pulled by winged horses. The rulers of Atlantis (sons of Poseidon) conducted the administration and the rendering of the justice in the temple. Atlantians were known for their skill in engineering and architecture and built numerous temples, canals, palaces, harbors, docks, with well knit and complicated water systems way back in that era.
The city was a magic in itself with mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, meadows, villages, plains with two harvests in a year. There was an abundance of fruits, herbs, nuts, flowers, animals. Most prominently, people were simple, virtuous, courteous, powerful and wealthy.
After some years things began to change, people turned greedy. Power corrupted the people of Atlantis absolutely. Zeus (the father of Gods and men in Greek mythology) came to know about the change in the mindset and immorality of the Atlantians, He gathered all the gods together to determine a suitable punishment to the people of Atlantis.
One fine day in a violent surge everything disappeared. The sea swallowed the people of Atlantis, Atlantis Island and its memory.
Plato has made the reference of Atlantis in his writings in 360 B.C. in his dialogues Timaeus and Critias. This is the only possible reference about Atlantis and is considered to be a controversial topic since years. Plato tried his best to convince people about the existence of this city. But other experts believe it to be a fiction. Let's not get into the debate and remember this story about the land that is presumed to have once existed.
