Selecting Foundation for Your Skin

Foundation can be tricky to pick out due to the many shades available. It is important to know how to chose the appropriate shade for your skin tone. If the wrong color is chosen, it will do much more harm than good. For instance, choosing a shade too light for your skin can make you look tired and washed out. On the other hand, a shade that is too dark can make you look orange. When foundation is several shades different than the wearer's skin tone, the face can end up looking like it does not belong with the body.
In order to avoid these potentially embarrassing beauty faux pas, one should educate them self in the correct way to select foundation. The first step in selecting the correct foundation is to identify your skin tone. One fairly simple way to figure this out is to determine if you look better in gold jewelry or silver. Those who look better in gold have warm undertones in their skin. However, those who look better in silver have cool undertones. African Americans and Latinos tend to have warmer skin tones. If you cannot figure out if you look better in gold or silver jewelry, you can try looking at your veins. If your veins look blue, you have cool undertones. Green veins indicate warm undertones.
Once you have determined your skin tone, the next step is to find a matching foundation shade. For those with a cool complexion, it is best to purchase a foundation that has either pink or blue undertones. This will be the most flattering color on you. For the woman with a warm complexion, foundations with yellow undertones are best. Once you have found a color that you feel is close to your own, put a small dab of it on your wrist and blend it all in. If the color seems to sink in and blend with your skin, then this is the correct shade for you. However, if the foundation is a noticeably different shade than your skin, you should try something else.
Many pharmacies and grocery stores carry foundation. While the makeup there is often cheaper, you cannot normally test it. Therefore, the best place to go is to a department store. The extra money spent is worth the insurance that you will have the right shade for your complexion. Getting the right foundation can drastically improve the look of your appearance
